Van Winden, Williams, Rodriguez Notch Women's Volleyball Honors
Recipients of the week one women’s volleyball awards came from Cal Poly, UC Riverside and Hawai‘i.
Rodriguez Named To Titan All-Tournament Team
Van Winden Leads Mustangs To 3-0 Start
Tournament Most Valuable Player Adlee Van Winden (Napa, Calif./Vintage HS) helped Cal Poly to the championship of the NIU Holiday Inn Express Invitational, garnering Big West Women’s Volleyball Player of the Week accolades.
The junior outside hitter helped the Mustangs to three consecutive sweeps of 2016 conference regular season champions Dayton (Atlantic 10), High Point (Big South) and Northern Illinois (MAC) – a trio that collectively went 78-18 last year.
Van Winden averaged 5.11 kills, 2.11 digs and 0.44 blocks per set while hitting a robust .353 with 46 kills and just 10 errors in 102 swings.
Van Winden tallied 17 kills apiece on day one of the NIU Holiday Inn Express Invitational. She hit .316 (17-5-38) against Dayton and .385 versus (17-2-39) High Point. Van Winden had a pair of service aces and eight digs versus the Flyers. Against the Panthers, she contributed another ace plus seven digs.
In the tournament finale, Van Winden totaled 12 kills on .360 hitting with four digs, an ace and two block assists.

Redshirt freshman Nicole Rodriguez (Montebello, Calif./Maranatha HS) paced UC Riverside in the back row with a 5.80 digs per set average as the Big West Women’s Volleyball Defensive Player of the Week.
Rodriguez, who amassed 58 digs over three matches, was named to the Titan All-Tournament Team after helping the Highlanders post a 2-1 record.
The defensive specialist had 16 digs in a 3-0 win in the season opener over Fairleigh Dickinson. She notched a career-best 23 scoops in a 3-0 loss to Bryant, and concluded the tournament with 19 more digs in a 3-1 triumph over Drake.
Rodriguez also collected 12 assists and a pair of service aces for the week.

Williams Impresses In Rainbow Wahine Debut
Hawai‘i middle hitter Skyler Williams (Bellflower, Calif./Mayfair HS) opened her collegiate career by putting on a blocking exhibition, as she notched Big West Women’s Volleyball Freshman Player of the Week accolades.
Taking on three tough opponents in the UH-hosted Texaco Rainbow Wahine Invitational, Williams started each match and emerged with solid numbers of 1.69 kills and 1.62 blocks per set. She also hit a respectable .258 with 22 kills and just five errors in 66 attempts.
Her collegiate debut features six kills, .294 hitting and 12 block assists in a narrow five-set loss to Marquette. The 12 blocks was the most for UH since Olivia Magill totaled the same amount versus St. John’s on Sept. 6, 2014.
Williams hit .318 with eight kills and seven blocks, including a match-high six block assists, against No. 22 San Diego.
She ended the tournament with eight kills and two blocks against No. 13 UCLA.
