2017 NCAA Baseball Championship Bracket
Cal State Fullerton took down No. 8 national seed and host Stanford, 4-1, to advance to the Regional finals, while Long Beach State took care of business in game of one of its Regional with a 6-0 victory over San Diego State.
Gavin's Gem Sends Titans to Regional Championship
Junior John Gavin held the No. 8 national seed Cardinal to just three hits over 7 strong innings as Cal State Fullerton (36-21) upended Stanford (41-15) 4-1 Friday night to advance the Titans to the NCAA Stanford Regional Championship Game at Sunken Diamond.
Fullerton will play the winner of Saturday afternoon's elimination game between BYU and Stanford in the nightcap at 6 p.m. It will be streamed on ESPN3. Right hander Colton Eastman (0-0, 1.86 ERA) is expected to make his 6th start of the year for Fullerton.
Smith Deals, Dirtbags Dominate SDSU in NCAA Opener
The 2017 Long Beach Regional got off to a perfect start for the host Dirtbags, who needed just one arm to get through their opening game of the postseason. Senior RHP Dave Smith delivered a career-best performance in his first postseason start, throwing a complete game shutout in Long Beach State’s 6-0 win over San Diego State on Friday night at Blair Field.
The top-seeded Dirtbags improve to 38-17-1 on the season and will face No. 2 seed Texas at 7 p.m. on Saturday in the winner’s bracket. No. 4 seed SDSU falls to 41-20 and will take on No. 3 seed UCLA at 1 p.m. on Saturday in an elimination game.
