After a one year hiatus, Long Beach State regained the Commissioner’s Cup after a tight race. The program has now hoisted the Cup on eight occasions, the second-most titles in conference history.

LBSU will hoist the trophy after recording a 116.7-point average over 15 sports, highlighted by the baseball championship that sealed the deal for the program. The Beach made a steady climb to the top of the Cup standings, going from a 97.5 average in the fall to a 140.0 average after the winter and finishing the spring with a 120.0 average. The 49ers were consistently good throughout the year, recording top three finishes on nine occasions.

UC Santa Barbara ended up in second place for the Commissioner’s Cup, averaging 110.7 points over 15 championships. The Gauchos, who ended LBSU’s five-year run of Cups a year ago, took home three titles in the spring as they swept the tennis championships and also won men’s golf. UCSB also had a division title in men’s soccer and four other top three finishes to its credit during the 2016-17 campaign.

Cal Poly recorded another fine year of competition as the club finished third with an average of 107.5 over 16 championships. The Mustangs swept the cross country titles and took home the women’s golf championship to highlight their campaign. The spring was also strong for the program as it recorded runner-up showings in men’s tennis, men’s track & field and baseball on its way to a 113.3 average in the season. Cal Poly has now finished in the top three of the Commissioner’s Cup standings in three of the last five competitions.

Cal State Fullerton was the final school to record a 100.0-point average, posting a school-record 107.1 over its 14 sports. The Titans tied Long Beach State for the highest spring average in the league (120.0), bouyed by titles in softball and men’s track & field. The fourth place finish is the highest for the program since a third place showing in 2005-06, while the point total snapped the previous high of 104.3 in the 2012-13 Cup chase.

Fifth place went to UC Davis with 98.8 points, while CSUN finished in sixth with 98.1 points. Both clubs took home titles during the year as the Aggies won the women’s hoops regular season crown, while the Matadors claimed the women’s track & field title, women’s soccer regular season championship and a division title in men’s soccer. Hawai’i, the champions of women’s volleyball and beach volleyball, was seventh with 90.7 points, UC Irvine took home the men’s basketball regular season title and women’s water polo championship on the way to 80.7 points and UC Riverside wrapped up the 2016-17 Commissioner’s Cup standings with 55.3 points.
