After winning its first Big West championship since 2008, Long Beach State has earned the right to host an NCAA Regional at Blair Field. The NCAA revealed its 16 host sites for the upcoming Division I Baseball Championships on Sunday, and Long Beach has been selected as one of the locations for the opening round of the postseason tournament.
Long Beach State just completed a 37-17-1 regular season with an impressive 20-4 record in Big West play. It’s the first time the Beach has won 20 conference games in a season since 1998, and the Dirtbags won the conference title by an impressive four games over Cal Poly. The Dirtbags are also ranked as high as No. 7 in the nation by Baseball America, and are nearly a consensus Top 10 team in the nation.
This is the first time Long Beach State will be hosting a regional since the 2008 season, when LBSU hosted San Diego, California and eventual national champion Fresno State. It also marks the third NCAA Regional appearance in four seasons for the Dirtbags, after LBSU went to the Gainesville Regional in 2014 and the Coral Gables Regional in 2016.
The complete field of 64 teams will be announced on Monday morning at 9 a.m. PT on the NCAA Selection Show. The official watch party will be at Legends on 2nd Street, where you can watch along with the Dirtbags to find out which three teams are coming to Long Beach this year. You can also watch the selection show live on ESPN 2.
All-session passes for the Long Beach Regional are currently available for purchase at LongBeachState.com/baseballregionals. Individual game tickets will go on sale Wednesday at 9 a.m. online and at 10 a.m. through the Long Beach State ticket office. Starting Wednesday, you can call to purchase single game tickets at (562) 985-4949.
