Albert, Branstine Named Tennis Athletes of the Week

Hawai‘i junior Felix Albert and UC Irvine freshman Constance Branstine helped their squads to conference wins to notch the tennis weekly awards.

Albert Helps Hawai‘i Break Streak

Hawai‘i junior Felix Albert (Karlstadt, Germany/JSG Karlstadt) claimed the program’s first Big West Men’s Tennis Athlete of the Week award this season as his performance helped the Rainbow Warriors to their first conference team win since 2014.

UH’s No. 2 singles player dispatched UC Riverside counterpart Kyle McCann in straight sets, 6-3, 6-4, as the Rainbow Warriors earned a 5-2 victory.  It was the program’s first Big West win since defeating UC Irvine on the road, 4-3, on April 18, 2014.

Albert and doubles teammate Marcel Chan also won their No. 1 match against Cooper Bridge and Nabil Abdallah, 6-3.  In a 5-2 loss to UC Irvine, Albert posted one of his team’s points with a hard fought 6-7 (4), 6-4, 10-5 triumph over Luca Marquard at No. 2.

Branstine Leads UC Irvine To Second Straight Conference Road Win

UC Irvine freshman Constance Branstine (Orange, Calif./Villa Park HS) went 3-0 in singles and doubles to capture her first career Big West Women’s Tennis Athlete of the Week award.

She led the Anteaters to a 6-1 victory at UC Riverside, the team’s second straight road win to close out Big West play.  She notched a 6-1, 6-2 victory at No. 1 singles over Highlander foe Karla Dulay.

In doubles with Stephanie Hazell, Branstine teamed up to clinch the doubles point with a 6-3 victory at the No. 1 position against Dulay and Tamilla Vaksman.  Branstine also earned a point for UCI against the No. 2-ranked team in Division III, Claremont-Mudd-Scripps, winning at No. 1 doubles with Hazell, 8-5, over Lindsay Brown and Nicole Tan.
