UC Davis, UC Riverside Collect Track & Field Weekly Honors

4/25/2017

UC Davis and UC Riverside divvied up the Big West Track and Field Athlete of the Week awards with impressive efforts at a pair of home meets.

UC Riverside senior Zach Lewis (Corona, Calif./Riverside CC) notched Big West Men’s Track Athlete of the Week honors with a season-best time in the 400-meter hurdles at the Highlander Challenge. He finished in first place in 52.29 seconds, which is the second-fastest time in the Big West this season and the 38th-fastest in the West Region.

UC Davis sophomore Natsumi McGee (Elk Grove, Calif./Cosumnes Oaks HS) rattled off a trio of first place finishes to collect Big West Women’s Track Athlete of the Week accolades.  She scored 10 individual points plus her share of the 5-point win in the 4x100 meter relay to pace the Aggies to victory in the Causeway Classic Dual against rival Sacramento State.  McGee won the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.77, her best wind-legal mark of 2017, and only .07 short of her personal-best.  She already ranks third in school history in that event.  McGee also posted a time of 24.25 seconds to win the 200-meters, and she contributed to the 4x100 relay victory in 45.42 – the No. 4 time in the Big West and No. 5 all-time at UC Davis.

UC Davis sophomore Drew Xandrine-Anderson (American Canyon, Calif./Stuart Hall HS) turned in one of the best triple jump performances in school history to receive Big West Men’s Field Athlete of the Week recognition.  He had the farthest leap in the Big West this season, a mark of 51-07.75 (15.74m), to place second at the Causeway Classic Dual.  He moved all the way to No. 2 on the school best marks list, representing the best effort in that event by an Aggie in 43 years.  Xandrine-Anderson now leads the Big West by almost five inches over teammate Basil Okoroike, and he ranks 14th in the West Region and 28th in the NCAA.  He also recorded a fifth place finish in the long jump in 22-04.25 (6.81m).

UC Riverside sophomore Tayler Fleming (Perris, Calif./Martin Luther King HS) earned Big West Women’s Field Athlete of the Week honors for the second time this season thanks to a pair of winning performances at the Highlander Challenge.  She uncorked a leap of 20 feet, 7 inches (6.27m) that represented the first jump over 20 feet in the Big West this season.  In addition, it gave her an advantage of 8.25 inches over the next competitor in that event on the conference leaderboard.  Fleming’s mark also ties her for 11th in the West Region, and for 25th nationally.  She also won the high jump with a mark of 5-3 (1.60m).
