USA Softball Player of the Year 25 Finalists
Cal Poly pitcher Sierra Hyland's season has garnered national acclaim as she has been named one of the 25 finalists for the 2017 USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Year award.
Prior to the start of post-season play, the list will be narrowed to the Top 10 Finalists on May 10. The Top 3 Finalists will be announced May 24, while the winner of the 2017 USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Year award will be revealed on May 30 prior to the start of the NCAA WCWS in Oklahoma City.
The USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Year award is voted on by coaching representatives of 10 Division I Conferences in the 10 USA Softball Regions, members of the media who consistently cover Division I Softball across the country as well as past winners of the award.
The senior, who was previously named to the award's watch list, is 17-6 with a 0.83 ERA, 200 strikeouts and just 86 hits and 18 walks allowed in 159.2 innings of work. Hyland is the Big West all-time leader in strikeouts (890) and has won the most conference Pitcher of the Week awards in history. She is also the first Mustang to record 200+ strikeouts in three seasons, has not allowed an earned run in her last 27.0 innings of work and is a two-time national Pitcher of the Week this season.
