2017 Track and Field Release No. 4

A busy weekend of track and field awaits, with teams traveling to meets such as the Bruin Legends Invitational, Stanford Invitational and Texas Relays.

BIG WEST AT A GLANCE

Track and Field Squads Encounter Busy Week: Big West track and field teams will be competing in prominent meets this week, including the Stanford Invitational and Bruin Legends Invitational.  Other meets on the docket include the San Francisco State Distance Carnival and the Mondo Team Challenge hosted by Sacramento State.  Long Beach State and UC Davis will send contingents to the Lone Star State to participate in two meets – the Texas Relays and the Texas State Bobcat Invitational.

Big West Representatives Post Top 10 National Marks: One month into the outdoor season, Big West student-athletes are prominently displayed with national top-10 marks.  A total of 17 conference competitors have recorded top-10 marks nationally in 13 different events.  Long Beach State sophomore Kemonie Briggs leads the country in the men’s long jump with his mark of 26-02.75 at the season-opening Beach vs. UCLA Dual.  Senior Riley Cooks posted the second-best heptathlon total as the 49er competitor collected 5,432 points at the UCR Spring Classic.

Hinkle Dominating The Distance Events: UC Santa Barbara junior Jenna Hinkle tops all Big West competitors in three distance events – the 800m (2:09.66), the 1500m (4:20.85) and the 5000m (16:53.79).

Big West Track & Field Championship Comes To Cal State Fullerton:
Cal State Fullerton will host the Big West Track and Field Championships for the first time since 1999.  The Titan Track Complex will be home to the multi-events portion of the meet (May 5-6) and the full portion (May 12-13).
