UC Irvine, Cal State Fullerton Headed To Postseason Tournaments

2017 NIT Men's Basketball Bracket

UC Irvine hits the road for the National Invitation Tournament, while Cal State Fullerton earns a hosting opportunity in the Tournament, giving Big West men's basketball three postseason teams.

The Anteaters and Titans join NCAA Tournament automatic qualifier UC Davis to comprise the trio of postseason participants.

UCI, as an automatic qualifer to the NIT by virtue of being the conference regular season champion, travels to No. 1 seed Illinois State for a first round game on Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. (PDT).  The game will be televised on ESPNU.

Seventh-year head coach Russell Turner's Anteaters are competing in a postseason tournament for the fifth straight year.  This is UCI's sixth appearance in the NIT.  UCI previously made NIT appearances in 1982, 1986, 2001, 2002 and 2014, compiling a 2-5 record.

The Anteaters are 21-14 overall and won the Big West with a 12-4 record.  UCI has won 114 games over the last five seasons, with at least 20 victories each of those years.

Cal State Fullerton accepted a bid to host the Riley Wallace Classic, as part of the first round of the Postseason Tournament.  The Titans are 17-14 overall and welcome Weber State (19-13) to Titan Gym for a 7:00 p.m. (PDT) tip Thursday.

Fullerton is no stranger to the CIT, having participated in 2012.

The Titans finished third in the Big West with a 10-6 record and reached the semifinals of the Big West Tournament before losing in overtime, 66-64, to eventual champion UC Davis.
