Mitchell Keys 4-0 Week For Eaters at Wolverine Invitational
Helping UC Irvine to a 4-0 record, including two wins over Top 10 teams, senior McKenna Mitchell (Santa Ana, Calif./Foothill HS) notched Big West Women’s Water Polo Player of the Week honors.
The center scored 11 goals against Michigan Wolverine Invitational opponents, increasing her career total to 168 goals and moving her into sixth all-time at UCI.
Mitchell equaled her season high with four goals in an 11-10 victory over No. 7 Michigan. She helped the Anteaters climb back from an 8-4 deficit, assisting on a goal and then scoring three consecutive goals to narrow the gap to 9-8 heading into the fourth quarter, the last with 42 seconds remaining.
Mitchell also had four goals in a win over Bucknell, scoring a goal in every quarter against the Bison.
She had a goal in UCI’s 11-7 victory over No. 18 Hartwick, and found the back of the net twice in an 8-6 triumph over No. 9 Pacific.
UCI is now 13-6 on the year.
