Gianotti Leads Aggie Charge On Central Coast Sweep
UC Davis junior Pele Gianotti (Myrtle Creek, Ore./Roseburg HS) collected her first career Big West Women’s Basketball Player of the Week award after averaging 22.0 points in a pair of victories over Central Coast foes Cal Poly and UC Santa Barbara.
The 5-11 forward shot 63.2 percent (12-for-19) from the floor overall, including 63.6 percent (7-for-11) from three-point territory. She also was perfect from the free throw line in 13 attempts.
Gianotti was a perfect 4-for-4 from distance en route to a game-high 25 points in an 83-75 win over Cal Poly. She scored 21 of those points in the second half. Gianotti set a career high in makes at the free throw line with her 9-for-9 performance. In notching her fourth 20-point effort of the year, Gianotti fell just one point short of her career high. She chipped in seven rebounds, three assists and a steal in 28 minutes.
In a 70-61 victory against the Gauchos, Gianotti dropped a game-high 19 points on 6-of-12 shooting, including 3-of-7 from long range. She added four rebounds and an assist in 37 minutes.
Gianotti led her team in scoring for the fifth and sixth times this season. The first-place Aggies extended their Division I era record winning streak to eight straight with the two victories – their longest since winning nine straight in 2006.
