Central Coast Competitors Capture Tennis Awards
Corey Pang of Cal Poly and Jaimee Gilbertson of UC Santa Barbara helped their teams continue their winning ways en route to receiving weekly accolades.
Pang Wins Pair of Straight Set Matches
Corey Pang (Redwood City, Calif./Carlmont HS) cranked out a pair of straight set victories to help Cal Poly win twice in non-conference play, earning him Big West Men’s Tennis Athlete of the Week honors.
The Mustangs swept Loyola Marymount, 7-0, aided by Pang’s 6-2, 6-1 triumph over Nick Borchenko. After moving up from the No. 2 spot to the No. 1 spot, Pang continued his production with a, 6-3, 6-2 victory over Pacific’s Miguel Diaz as the Mustangs won 5-2.
Pang and partner Ben Donovan, ranked No. 28 nationally in the ITA doubles rankings, split a pair of matches on the week. They defeated Max Kaiser and Borchenko of LMU by a 6-4 score.

Gilbertson Helps Gauchos Win Big West Match
UC Santa Barbara senior Jaimee Gilbertson (Noosa, Australia/Matthew Flinders Anglican College) had productive performances to help the Gauchos extend their win streak to four straight, garnering her Big West Women’s Tennis Athlete of the Week accolades.
She notched a 6-4, 6-1 win over Kristina Breisacher of UC Davis to help the Gauchos forge a 4-0 victory in their Big West opener. Gilbertson, competing at No. 3 singles, also scratched out a 2-6, 6-3, 7-6 (2) triumph against Clementine Clement of Saint Mary’s to help UCSB eke out a narrow 4-3 win.
In doubles, Gilbertson and Natalie Da Silveira teamed up at the No. 3 spot to win both matches by 6-4 scores. They downed the Aggie duo of Samantha Martino and Nikita Pradeep to help UCSB win the point.
