AROUND THE BIG WEST

STREAK BROKEN

CSUN sophomore center Channon Fluker put the team on her back recently, reeling off six straight double-doubles in six straight wins. Fluker averaged 19.4 points and 15.3 rebounds during that stretch, upping her double-double total to 17. That number leads the Big West and ranks fifth in the NCAA.

Fluker’s scoring, rebounding and blocks binge has her on the verge of one of the Big West’s most impressive stat lines. She currently is second in scoring and leads the league in rebounding and blocks. The only player to ever lead the league in all three categories was Cal State Fullerton great Genia Miller, who averaged 29.4 points, 12.3 rebounds and 4.4 blocks in the 1990-91 season.

NO SENIORITIS FROM GLASSOW
UC Irvine senior Brittany Glassow’s career is winding down, but she has heated up for the ‘Eaters over the last two games. Glassow recorded a career-high 18 points, including a perfect 4-of-4 from three-point land, in a tight loss to CSUN. She then put up 10 points, seven rebounds, two assists and hit three more threes in 44 minutes in the overtime road win over Cal Poly.

THIS SEEMS FAMILIAR
CSUN has shot up the standings thanks to a seven-game win streak, its longest since the 2014-15 season when it won nine in a row to close out the season. Both streaks have begun around the same time as the previous string began in the first weekend of February while the current run started in the last weekend of January.

AGGIES LIKE TO MATCH
League-leading UC Davis matched a host of numbers following the win over Hawai’i last week. The victory gave UCD its 19th win overall and 10th win in conference play, both of which equal their output from last season. The Aggies’ six-game win streak is also its longest since early last season and the two 20-point scorers in the win was the first since Dec. 2, 2016.

(NOT SO) SECRET SAUCE
UC Santa Barbara sophomore Sarah Porter has been an outstanding outside shooter in her first season with the program. Porter ranks fifth in the Big West in three-point percentage (39.2) and is third in three-pointers made (56). The Gauchos are also 6-1 during conference play when Porter hits three or more from beyond the arc.

CURRY PICKING UP THE SLACK
UC Riverside junior Michelle Curry is rounding into form at a key time for the team. Curry is averaging 19.8 points over the last five contests, the first time all year she’s scored in double figures in five straight games. Curry has also been efficient in her scoring as she is shooting 57.1% (32-56) from the floor and 73.9% (34-46) from the foul line. Curry has been aggressive in her approach as she has attempted double-digit free throws in three straight contests.

GRAND STATUS
UC Riverside senior Simone DeCoud, Cal Poly senior Hannah Gilbert and Long Beach State senior Anna Kim became the 130th, 131st and 132nd members of the Big West 1,000-point club this season.
