UC Irvine junior Mary Brooks (Fresno, Calif./Clovis West HS) notched 14 goals over four games to lead her squad at the prestigious Stanford Invitational, garnering Big West Women’s Water Polo Player of the Week recognition.
Brooks, who tops the team with 20 goals this season, had at least a hat trick in three of the four games.
She led the Anteaters with four goals against No. 8 Hawai‘i in a narrow 9-8 loss to commence the tournament. She scored two of UCI’s three goals in the third period to keep the score even at 7-7. Brooks followed with four more goals in a 9-5 triumph over No. 20 Loyola Marymount.
After collecting one goal against No. 1 Stanford, Brooks exploded for a career-high five scores against No. 16 San Jose State in an 18-7 rout.
The five goals are tied for seventh most in a game in UCI history.
