Dawson's Double-Doubles Spur Matadors To Road Victories

Junior Tavrion Dawson (Long Beach, Calif./Gardena Serra HS) earned his second Big West Men’s Basketball Player of the Week award this season after helping CSUN pick up two road wins with back-to-back double-doubles.

The 6-8 forward averaged 16.5 points, 12.5 rebounds and 3.5 assists while shooting 50.0 (10-for-20) percent from the field as the Matadors dispatched UC Santa Barbara (78-57) and UC Riverside (63-59) for their third and fourth conference road wins.

The four Big West road wins are the most for the program since 2011.

Dawson contributed 11 points and 13 rebounds to go along with six assists, two steals and a block in the victory at UCSB.  He made 4-of-7 floor shots, including a three-pointer.

He then helped CSUN stop UC Riverside’s four-game conference win streak with 22 points and 12 rebounds – his third double-double of the season and fifth of his career.

Dawson converted all eight of his free throw attempts, including two key chippies with six seconds left that extended a two-point lead to four and sealed the win over the Highlanders.  He chipped in with an assist, a steal and two rejections.  Dawson shot 83.3 (10-of-12) from the foul line for the week.

He ranks No. 6 in the Big West in scoring (14.3 ppg), No. 4 in rebounding (6.4 rpg) and No. 3 in field goal percentage (.546), helping the Matadors take over possession of third place in the conference with a 5-3 record.
