Dimakopoulos Helps 'Eaters Remain Unbeaten in League
Ioannis Dimakopoulos (Patra, Greece/Cathedral HS) duplicated 19 point efforts in back-to-back wins, earning his first career Big West Men’s Basketball Player of the Week accolade as UC Irvine improved to 6-0 in conference.
The 7-2 center shot 60.0 percent from the field with 15 made baskets in 25 attempts. He also averaged 8.0 rebounds and 2.5 blocked shots in helping the Anteaters run their overall winning streak to eight games, the program’s longest in 11 years since a similar run in January 2006.
Dimakopoulos scored his 19 in 25 minutes in Wednesday’s 70-48 win at Cal Poly, shooting 7-of-16 from the floor and making all four of his free throw attempts. He added 10 rebounds for his third double-double of the season. The senior also had two assists, one steals and a pair of rejections as UCI won for the fourth straight year in San Luis Obispo.
He put forth an identical scoring output in just 15 minutes of action in Saturday’s 105-73 win at CSUN. Dimakopoulos made 8 of 9 shots from the field while chipping in six boards, two assists and three blocked shots.
Dimakopoulos has scored 19 points in three straight games, and in double figures 10 times in the last 11 contests.
