Big West Honors 197 Student-Athletes on Fall All-Academic Team
2016 Big West Fall All-Academic Team
A total of 197 student-athletes from 10 member institutions were honored on the 2016 Big West Conference Fall All-Academic team for the sports of women’s volleyball, men’s and women’s soccer, and men’s and women’s cross country. To be eligible for the All-Academic team, student-athletes must maintain a 3.0 cumulative grade point average, complete one full academic year at the member institution prior to the season for which the award is being received (at least a sophomore academically), and compete in at least 50 percent of their team’s contests.
The largest number of all-academic representatives was 61 women’s soccer honorees, while women’s cross country had 43. Thirty-eight women’s volleyball student-athletes earned the award, followed by 30 men’s soccer recipients and 25 more from the men’s cross country group.
CSUN led all Big West schools with 29 all-academic representatives. UC Davis and UC Santa Barbara were right behind with 26 honorees apiece. Hawai‘i had 24 recipients, while Cal Poly generated 21 citations followed by UC Irvine with 19. Cal State Fullerton notched 17, UC Riverside 14, Long Beach State 13 and Sacramento State eight to add to the list.
