Big West Women's Basketball Weekly Release No. 11

AROUND THE BIG WEST
SHOWDOWN AT THE SRC ON ESPN3
For the second week in a row, UC Riverside will be on ESPN3 as the Highlanders play host to Cal State Fullerton. UCR is looking to extend its home win streak in league play to 12, while the Titans are looking to claim victories in back-to-back Big West games for the first time since January 2015.
RITTER CONTINUES HOT STREAK
UC Irvine’s Andee Ritter continued her recent hot streak last week, highlighted by a career-high 25 points in the home win over CSUN. Against conference foes, Ritter is averaging 16.5 points and shooting 45.5% from three-point land. The sophomore also has two 20-point outings in those four games, leads the league with 15 makes from beyond the arc and is averaging 38.3 minutes per game.
AMONG THE NATIONAL ELITE
CSUN sophomore Channon Fluker is in rare company in the country with her outstanding scoring and rebounding. Fluker is one of 28 players nationally to average a double-double, scoring 15.2 points and pulling down10.9 rebounds. Fluker is 12th in the NCAA in rebounding, while her 10 double-doubles also rank 12th.
Cal State Fullerton junior Iman Lathan has been a game-changer for the Titans as a reserve this season. Lathan is averaging 18.3 points, 6.1 rebounds, 2.5 assists and is shooting 72.1% from the foul line in 10 games as a substitute this season.
GOING UP AND GETTING IT
Hawai’i has returned to form in conference play as a club that owns the glass. The team is tied for third on the conference leaderboard in rebounding (38.0) and second in offensive rebounds per game (14.7), and owns a +2.3 rebounding margin. The ‘Bows have also recorded double-digit offensive rebounds in three straight games, including tying a season-high with 18 offensive boards against Long Beach State.
MUCH NEEDED OFFENSE
Long Beach State senior guard Anna Kim broke out offensively to lead the 49ers to a close win over Cal Poly. Kim scored 25 points thanks to a 4-of-5 effort from three-point land, 7-of-8 from the foul line and 7-of-10 overall. Kim’s 25-point effort almost equals her point output from her previous four contests (28), while her 70% shooting is her best with a minimum of five attempts since December 10.
UC Santa Barbara did something no Big West club had done since March 2015...defeat UC Riverside. The Gauchos’ win over the Highlanders snapped UCR’s 18-game conference win streak. A major part of that victory was UCSB’s passing as it recorded 20 assists on 21 baskets.
UC Riverside senior Simone DeCoud became the 130th member of the Big West 1,000-point club this season, reaching the milestone in a home win over Grand Canyon.
Three more players could join DeCoud as Long Beach State senior Anna Kim (947) and Cal Poly senior Hannah Gilbert (975) should reach the list by season’s end. A player to keep an eye on is UC Riverside senior Réjane Verin (815) as she put up 544 points last year, her first with UCR after transferring from UNLV.
