ICYMI: Here are the top five things that happened in the Big West last week….In Case You Missed It!

1. SWEET SIXTEEN! Titans Claim 16th National Championship

The Cal State Fullerton dance team has done it again, as it claimed its 16th UDA/UCA Collegiate National Championship in Division I Jazz out at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex in Orlando on Sunday.  Full Story

2. Seven Selected To SoCal Volleyball Hall Of Fame

The 25-member list of the inaugural class of the newly formed Southern California Indoor Volleyball Hall of Fame was announced earlier this month and seven of the inductees have connections with the Big West Conference. Those elite athletes that claimed a spot on the list are Deitre Collins-Parker, Tara Cross-Battle, Debbie Green, Kathy Gregory, Misty May-Treanor, Jeff Stork and Paula Weishoff.   Full Story

3. DePuy Taken No. 19 Overall by Montreal in MLS SuperDraft

UC Santa Barbara forward Nick DePuy became the sixth player in school history to be selected in the first round of the MLS SuperDraft, when he was picked No. 19 overall by the Montreal Impact on Friday afternoon. The first athlete in Big West history to be tabbed Offensive Player of the Year three times, DePuy joined the likes of Luis Silva, Sam Garza, Chris Pontius, Ciaran O’Brien and Andy Iro as former Gaucho MLS first round selections.  Full Story

4. Evan Longoria Pledges $100,000 to Blair Field Renovations

As the renovation project continues at Blair Field, so does the generous support from former Dirtbags. Tampa Bay Rays third baseman Evan Longoria joins the list of former players who have given back to Long Beach State, contributing $100,000 to the renovation efforts at Blair Field. Longoria, a native of nearby Downey, Calif., played at Long Beach State from 2005-06 under Mike Weathers, with current Dirtbags head coach Troy Buckley serving as an assistant coach during those years. 5. UCI Men’s Basketball, LBSU Women’s Basketball Perfect In Conference Play

Two weeks of Big West play completed and just two teams remain unscathed. The UC Irvine men’s basketball team, riding a six-game win streak, is currently 4-0, while the Long Beach State 49ers are perched atop the Big West women’s basketball standings with a 3-0 mark.  Full Story
