Recording consecutive double-doubles to help UC Davis close out non-conference play with a pair of victories, junior Chima Moneke (Canberra, Australia/Northeast Community College) earned his first career Big West Men’s Basketball Player of the Week award.
The 6-6 forward averaged 17.0 points and 12.0 rebounds as the Aggies defeated Seattle (72-65) on the road and Utah Valley (83-69) at home.
Moneke also shot 56.0 percent (14-for-25) from the field while accumulating four assists, three steals and three blocked shots over the two games.
Against Seattle, he produced game-highs of 22 points and 12 rebounds to go along with three assists, two steals and two swats as UC Davis snapped its four-game losing skid to the Redhawks. He knocked down three free throws in the waning moments that enabled UC Davis to extend its advantage to three possessions with 28 seconds left. He hit 9-of-15 shots from the floor in the win.
Moneke posted 12 points and 12 rebounds against Utah Valley for his second consecutive double-double and league-high fifth of the season. He made 5-of-10 shots while adding an assist, a steal and a blocked shot.
Moneke became just the third Aggie in the program’s nine-year Division I history to record consecutive double-doubles.
He has corraled 10 or more rebounds in a game six times this season.
