Long Beach State took home the #BWCWSOC Tourney title on their home field to represent the #BigWest in the NCAA Tournament.


AROUND THE BIG WEST

LONG BEACH STATE IN NCAA TOURNAMENT

Long Beach State made its second-consecutive trip to the NCAA Tournament and its sixth in program history.  The 49ers traveled to Santa Clara for the first round of the Tournament and fell to the Broncos 3-0 on Saturday, Nov. 12. LBSU wrapped up its 2016 campaign with a 10-7-4 overall mark for its ninth 10-win season with coach Mauricio Ingrassia at the helm.

CSUN WRAPS UP HISTORIC SEASONalt
CSUN wrapped up a historic year after the Matadors won its first-ever Big West title in program history and recorded its best-ever conference record with a 6-1-1 mark in league.  The squad set a number of records that included: season shutouts (15), consecutive hutouts (6) and consecutive conference shutouts (6).

Individually junior goalkeeper, Jovani McCaskill posted the most shutouts in a single season in program history with 14. the 14 clean sheets are also a new Big West mark in the category.
Additionally, McCaskill helped the Matadors tie the Big West mark for shutouts in a single campaign with 15.

CSUN MAKES NOISE ACROSS NATION
In addition to its  record-breaking season, the Matadors also remained in the top 10 nationally in categories including shutouts, shutout percentage and goals against average.  CSUN currently ranks nationally in shutout percentage (T2nd - .714), goals-against average (4th - .402), shutouts (T4th - 15) and save percentage (3rd - .913).

BEST STARTS
Three teams had memorable starts to open their campaigns this season in UC Santa Barbara, Hawai‘i and UC Irvine. UCSB got off to its best start since 1989 at 8-0 while UH mounted its best-ever start with a 7-1-1 overall mark.  The Anteaters went 7-1-0 through its first eight contests for the first time since 1998.

MIMI RANGEL IS MOST VALUABLE
Long Beach State junior midfielder Mimi Rangel received most valuable player honors after recording an assist in the Big West Tournament championship and helping her team punch its ticket to the NCAA Tourney. 

BIG WEST TOURNAMENT RECAP
Long Beach State recorded back-to-back shutouts with senior goalkeeper Ashton McKeown, tying a Big West Tournament record. The Beach is the fifth team to accomplish the feat.  Three goals scored in a single game ties for fourth-most scores in a single Tournament contest and the 49ers are the sixth team in Tournament history to do so. Four goals over the course of the Tournament rank fifth-best in the record book.  The 2016 Tournament also marks just the third time a single team has scored three or more goals in a championship game and the 3-0 shutout win marks the greatest margin of victory in a shutout.
