Long Beach State, UC Irvine Combine For Final Weekly Awards Of 2016
A pair of Long Beach State individuals and one from UC Irvine comprised the final women’s volleyball weekly honorees for the 2016 season.
Barber Wins Fourth Player Of The Week Honor
Senior Nele Barber (Berlin, Germany/Marquette) ended her Long Beach State career with her fourth Big West women’s volleyball Player of the Week accolade after averaging 3.75 kills and 3.63 digs per set in two victories.
It is the eighth career Player of the Week citation for the 6-1 outside hitter, who finished tied for fifth overall in Big West history for most awards.
Barber accumulated her 21st and 22nd double-double of the season as the Beach topped both North Texas and Denver in four sets to conclude the season 21-10 overall.
She produced 12 kills and 14 digs against North Texas to go along with two total blocks and a pair of service aces. She hit .333 (12-3-27) for the match.
Against the Pioneers, Barber noticed 18 kills on .286 hitting, and added 15 digs with two more aces and a solo block. She led the Beach in kills in 30 of 31 matches this year, and reached double-digits 27 times. She also compiled 24 matches with double-dig digs.

Davis Posts Career-High in Digs In Victory
UC Irvine senior Arden Davis (Glendora, Calif./St. Lucy’s Priory) finished her career on a strong note, garnering Big West Women’s Volleyball Defensive Player of the Week honors.
The 5-9 libero collected a season-high 24 digs as the Anteaters toppled North Texas in four sets in the season finale.
Davis also had a team-high 10 digs as UCI ended conference play with a sweep of UC Santa Barbara.
Davis finished her UCI career sixth all-time in digs with 1,238.

Xue Records First Career Double-Double
YiZhi Xue (Nanjing, China/Nanjing No. 3 HS) notched her second Big West Women’s Volleyball Freshman Player of the Week honor as she led Long Beach State at the net in two wins.
Xue, who also has one Defensive Player of the Week honor to her credit, recorded a double-double of 10 kills and 11 blocks in a four-set victory over North Texas. She equalled her career high in blocks, which included two solos.
The 6-4 middle blocker then hit .375 with 11 kills and just two errors in 24 swings as the Beach knocked off Denver in four sets. She added a solo block to her total.
For the week, Xue averaged 2.63 kills and 1.50 blocks per set while hitting .313 (21-6-48)
