Sawyer Posts Back-To-Back Double-Doubles
Long Beach State senior Jewelyn Sawyer (Paramount, Calif./Gahr HS) averaged a double-double in two road wins to garner her second career Big West Women’s Basketball Player of the Week honor.
A 6-0 guard/forward, Sawyer led the 49ers to a 97-93 overtime win at Nevada in the season opener. She produced 18 points, 12 rebounds and a steal, shooting 5-of-11 from the floor and hitting all six of her free throw attempts. She also drained a pair of three-pointers.
Sawyer helped LBSU to another win – this time in a defensive struggle – posting 11 points and a career-high 15 rebounds as the 49ers outlasted Pepperdine, 44-41.
She added two assists and a steal, and her solid defense helped hold the Waves to just 27.3 shooting for the game.
Sawyer averaged 14.5 points and 13.5 rebounds per game while shooting 43.8 percent (7-of-16) from the floor and 42.9 percent (3-for-7) from distance.
