CSUN, UC Santa Barbara Lead Divisions After One Week

2016 Men's Soccer Release No. 7

CSUN seeks its first 3-0 Big West start in school history when it travels to Cal Poly on Thursday.  The Mustangs currently own a 12-game unbeaten streak at home.

CSUN Goes For 3-0 Start
The two division leaders after one week of Big West play are UC Santa Barbara in the North and CSUN in the South.  The Gauchos tied UC Riverside and defeated Cal State Fullerton on the road to go 1-0-1.  Meanwhile, CSUN was the only team in either division to start out 2-0 after toppling UC Davis and Sacramento State at home.  The Matadors seek their first 3-0 Big West start in school history when they travel to Cal Poly on Thursday.

Division Leaders To Possibly Meet
Winning outcomes for UC Santa Barbara and CSUN on Thursday would ensure that both teams remain division leaders going into Saturday’s showdown at Harder Stadium.  CSUN’s last victory in Santa Barbara occurred in the 2013 Big West Tournament semifinals.

Gauchos Seek Home Rebound
UCSB has lost its last three home matches, a streak that last happened in October of 2012 (Cal Poly, Stanford, UC Davis).  That number extends to four when counting the 2013 home opener against Gonzaga.  UCSB is 58-21-7 on its home turf since the start of the 2009 season.

DePuy Reaches Milestone 30th Goal

UCSB senior Nick DePuy reached a career milestone with his 30th goal in Thursday’s 2-2 tie at UC Riverside.  He became just the ninth player in Big West history to tally 30 goals.  His next goal will lift him into a tie for the No. 7 spot with UC Irvine’s Brad Evans (2003-06) and UCSB’s Rob Friend (2001-02) on the Big West chart.

DePuy Eyes Additional Landmark
DePuy, who leads the Big West with 35 shots taken, is tied for No. 7 in the Big West record book with 198 for his career.  He sits alongside former Gaucho Luis Silva (2008-11).  Two more shots will lift DePuy into hallowed company as just the seventh player to reach the 200-mark in league history.

Cal Poly Aims To Extend Spanos Streak
Cal Poly takes a 12-match home unbeaten streak into Thursday’s matchup against CSUN.  The Mustangs are 9-0-3 during the streak, and have not lost at Spanos Stadium since Nov. 2, 2014.

Two Or More Equals “W”
In topping UC Davis by a 2-1 score on Thursday, CSUN extended its winning streak to 22 straight when scoring two or more goals in a game.  The Matadors are 4-0 this season when putting multiple goals on the scoreboard.  The last time CSUN dropped a contest under those circumstances?  Go back all the way to Sept. 22, 2013, a 4-2 setback to No. 11 UCLA.

Formula Works For Hornets Too
Sacramento State’s 2-1 road victory against UC Irvine last Thursday marked the fourth time in the last six matches the squad has produced two or more goals.  The Hornets are 12-2-1 since 2014 when scoring two or more goals.

UC Riverside has distributed its scoring in an extremely balanced way with nine different goal scorers accounting for its 17 goals this season.  The Highlanders rank second in the Big West in the goals category.  UCR is off to its best Big West start in program history, unbeaten at 1-0-1.

Interdivisional History
Since the Big West moved to interdivisional in play in 2012, the North has held a decided edge over the South, posting a 38-26-8 record.  UCSB has owned the most success against its counterparts from the South with a 13-2-3 overall mark, including 4-0-0 last year.  UC Davis is 10-6-2 all-time in regular season matchups against the South.  The two South Division programs boasting the highest degree of success versus the North are CSUN (9-7-2) and CSF (8-7-3).
