Nygren, Edberg Earn September Golfer of the Month Awards
A team title and two individual medalist performances led to the recognition of Cole Nygren and Martina Edberg as the Big West Golfers of the Month for September.
Nygren Leads Cal Poly to Hartford Hawk Invitational Win
Senior Cole Nygren (Longmont, Colo./Alexander Dawson School) helped Cal Poly capture the Hartford Hawk Invitational with a seventh-place finish, earning him Big West Men’s Golfer of the Month honors for September.
In a tournament that was shortened to 36 holes due to rain, Nygren recorded two rounds at under par to finish at 4-under 140 in the Hartford Hawk Invitational. He had a 69 in the opening round, his eighth career round in the 60s, and followed that with a 71. The Mustangs out-dueled the 19-team field, winning by three strokes over Central Florida.
Earlier in the month at the Olympic Intercollegiate in San Francisco, Nygren tied for 19th place with an aggregate score of 7-over 220. He shot even par 71 in the middle round with bookend rounds of 73 and 76.
Nygren leads Cal Poly with his 72.0 scoring average over six round with three rounds of par or better so far.

Edberg Wins Back-To-Back Tournaments
The first Cal State Fullerton golfer to win consecutive tournaments in school history, senior Martina Edberg (Glumskov, Sweden/Klippans Gymnasieskola) collected Big West Golfer of the Month accolades for September.
This is Edberg’s third career Golfer of the Month award, piggybacking on previous selections in March 2014 and March 2016.
Edberg tallied her fifth and sixth career victories and won multiple tournaments in the same season for the second time.
She set a new 54-hole school and course record with a 10-under 206 at the 6,200-yard Washington State Palouse Ridge Golf Club in Pullman, Wash. Her seven stroke WSU Cougar Cup victory was facilitated by a 6-under 66 in round three. Her first two rounds featured a 72 and 68.
The Rose City Collegiate featured a steady Edberg who carded rounds of 70, 70 and 72 to finish with a winning score of 4-under 212. She edged Poy Prasurtwong of Southern Utah and Sofie Babic of Sacramento State by one stroke at Langdon Farms Golf Club in Aurora, Ore.
Her three rounds of par or better in Oregon extended her own school record to 37 rounds of par or better for her career.
