Big West Trio Earns Recognition Of Recruiting Class


Collegiate Baseball announced its annual evaluation of NCAA Division I baseball classes today and the Big West Conference landed three spots in the Top 40.

Coming off its historic run to the program's first-ever College World Series, UC Santa Barbara landed the ninth spot on the elite list.  The Gauchos finished 2016 with a 43-20-1 record after being pegged to finish middle of the pack in the Big West before the season began. UCSB ended up going 6-2 in the postseason, including a 3-0 mark in the Nashville Regional at Vanderbilt and a 2-0 record in the Louisville Super Regional.

Also making the list in the 21st spot is Cal State Fullerton.  The Titans wrapped up the 2016 season with a 36-23 overall record, notching the 42nd straight 30-win season for the Titans. Sixth-year head coach Rick Vanderhook led Fullerton to its 21st Big West Conference title and 29th conference championship overall as he was named Big West Coach of the Year for the fourth time in his career. It was also the Titans' fourth conference title in his five years as head coach.

Grabbing the 37th ranking on the elite list is University of Hawai'i, who finished the 2016 tied for fourth place in the Big West with a 12-12 mark.  The Rainbow Warriors welcome a 20-member class to the roster for the upcoming season. The 2016 UH ranking is the highest from the publication for the Rainbow Warriors since CBN listed the 2008 recruiting class also at 37th.
