Francis, McKeown Notch Women's Soccer Weekly Awards

Savannah Francis provided the game-winning goal for UC Santa Barbara, while Ashton McKeown of Long Beach State gave her squad a chance to pull off a major upset as the two earned women’s soccer weekly honors.

Francis Makes First Goal of Season Count

Senior Savannah Francis (La Mirada, Calif./La Serna HS) recorded the game-winning goal, her first of the season, to improve UC Santa Barbara to 9-1 on the year in a Big West Women’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week performance.

Francis, who previously scored a pair of goals in 2014, received a pass from freshman Shaelan Murison, dribbled through traffic and deposited a shot to the left side to give the Gauchos a 3-1 lead in the 55th minute over Pacific.

The Gauchos ultimately won the game, 3-2.

Others nominated: Jessica Johnson (Cal Poly); Camille Watson (CSUN); Hinsseenee Regatta (UC Davis); Tayler Dragoo (UC Riverside)

McKeown Makes Career-High 10 Saves at No. 4 BYU

Senior goalkeeper Ashton McKeown handcuffed one of the nation’s best offensive teams as the Big West Women’s Soccer Defensive Player of the Week made 10 saves in Long Beach State’s heartbreaking 1-0 defeat at No. 4 BYU.

Averaging over three goals per game entering the contest, the Cougars tested McKeown and she was more than up to the challenge with the career-high 10 stops.

The game remained scoreless until the 85th minute when BYU finally pushed one through on a cold night in Provo.

Others nominated: Sophia Brown (Cal Poly); Nicole Thompson (CSUN); Roisin Allaeddini (UC Davis); Sydney Fuentes (UC Santa Barbara)
