Kruetz, Froment Key Victories

Caitlyn Kruetz and Chloe Froment played key roles in a successful week of action for Cal Poly and Long Beach State, respectively.

Kreutz Figures Prominently On Offense For Mustangs

Cal Poly sophomore Caitlyn Kreutz (Clovis, Calif./Buchanan HS) led her team to a pair of victories with a goal and two assists, garnering Big West Women’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week accolades.

The forward contributed to all three Mustang goals in wins over San Francisco (2-1) and Saint Mary’s (1-0).

Kreutz put Cal Poly on the board in the 52nd minute, tapping in a rebounded shot for her ninth career goal.  She then delivered the game-winning assist against the Dons in the 95th minute, sending a perfectly placed cross to Megan Demijohn for her first career goal.

Kreutz impacted the Mustang fortunes once again in overtime two days later against the Gaels.  At the 91:31 mark of the first extra period, Kreutz figured in the sequence for the golden goal.  She split two defenders with a header, while Kelly Kessloff ran onto the flick and beat the goalkeeper to the left.

Others nominated: Cynthia Sanchez (CSUN); Dana Fujikuni (Long Beach State); Celina Minissian (UC Davis); Kiana Palacios (UC Irvine); Tayler Dragoo (UC Riverside); Amanda Ball (UC Santa Barbara); Raisa Strom-Okimoto (Hawai‘i)

Froment Helps Beach Blank No. 11 USC

Instrumental on both sides of the ball, Long Beach State freshman Chloe Froment (Lyon, France/Lycee Frederic Fays) claimed the Big West Women’s Soccer Defensive Player of the Week award in a 1-0 victory over No. 11 USC.

Froment anchored a Beach defense that held the Trojans to just two shots on goal as LBSU spun its second consecutive shutout.

She also assisted on the game-winning goal in the 66th minute, as she curled a corner kick over the USC defenders to teammate Dana Fukijuni on the back post.  Froment played all 90 minutes at center back to help LBSU improve to 2-0-1.

Others nominated: Kendra Bonsall (Cal Poly); Lindsay Kutscher (CSUN); Kelsey Texeira (UC Irvine); Alanna Guzman (UC Riverside); Brittney Rogers (UC Santa Barbara); Storm Kenui (Hawai‘i)
