Diouf, Boateng Named Men's Soccer Players of the Week

8/29/2016

Papi Diouf scored the fastest goal in Big West history and Roy Boateng led a stellar defensive effort in a pair of award worthy performances.

Diouf Scores Goal Eight Seconds Into Match

Papi Diouf (Dakar, Senegal/Louisville) is the Big West Men’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week after scoring the fastest goal in conference history.

The CSUN forward netted the first Matador goal just eight seconds into the match in a 2-1 victory over Tulsa in Friday’s season opener.

It represented the second-fastest goal in NCAA Division I history.  Diouf latched onto a lofted pass from Juan Fernando Samayoa and outran the Golden Hurricane defense, uncorking a shot past the goalkeeper to the far post.

Diouf’s third career goal helped the Matadors improve to 25-12-2 all-time in season openers.

Others nominated: Justin Dhillon (Cal Poly); Ronaldo Pineda (Cal State Fullerton); Ricardo Ruiz (UC Riverside); Josue España (UC Santa Barbara)

Boateng Helps Aggies to Scoreless Draw

Sophomore Roy Boateng (Rohnert Park, Calif./Rancho Cotate HS) spearheaded a UC Davis defense that held visiting San Jose State to just a single shot on goal, as he earned Big West Men’s Soccer Defensive Player of the Week.

Boateng was one of two players to stay on the field for all 110 minutes as the Aggies and Spartans battled to a scoreless draw, and helped UC Davis post its first shutout of the year.

Others nominated: Corentin Ohlmann (Cal State Fullerton); Kevin Marquez (CSUN); Vincent Morales (UC Riverside); Sam Strong (UC Santa Barbara)
