UC Santa Barbara junior Amanda Ball and Cal Poly freshman Sophia Brown are the first recipients of the 2016 Big West Women’s Soccer Player of the Week awards.

Ball’s Hat Trick Sends Gauchos To Victory

UC Santa Barbara junior Amanda Ball (Chino Hills, Calif./Chino Hills HS) scored all three goals in a season-opening road victory at Fresno State to capture Big West Women’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week honors.

The forward recorded UCSB’s first three-goal hat trick since 2004 in a 3-2 triumph over the Bulldogs.  She scored the game-winner in the 102nd minute on a header off a free kick from Maddie Gibson.

Ball, who scored five goals in 12 matches in 2015, got the Gauchos off to a scorching start with two goals less than six minutes apart for a 2-0 lead.  All three goals came on assists from Gibson.

Ball put all of her team-high five shots on frame.
