No. 21 Cal State Fullerton Outlasts Louisiana Tech 1-0
It took two days, two weather delays, a suspended game and eight innings before a run was scored. However, the run that was scored in the bottom of the eighth inning on an RBI-fielder's choice would prove to be the difference in the game as No. 21 Cal State Fullerton edged Louisiana Tech, 1-0, Saturday morning as the two teams concluded a game which started the night before and was suspended due to rain and lightning in the area.
With the win, the Titans improve to 36-21 and move into the winner's bracket. Cal State Fullerton will face No. 4 Mississippi State Saturday night at 6:30 p.m., at Dudy Noble Field.
No. 21 Cal State Fullerton Drops 4-1 Contest to No. 4 Mississippi State
Senior leftfielder Josh Vargas accounted for the Titans' only run of the ballgame as No. 21 Cal State Fullerton dropped a 4-1 decision to No. 4 Mississippi State Saturday night.
With the loss, the Titans fall to 36-22 on the year and will face Louisiana Tech on Sunday, June 5 in an elimination game. First pitch is set for 11:30 a.m. (PT).
Dirtbags Drop 11-Inning Heartbreaker to Miami, 4-3
Trailing 3-2 and down to their final out in the bottom of the ninth inning, the Dirtbags got some postseason magic from junior Jeff Nellis. Entering the game as a pinch hitter, Nellis hit a game-tying home run to left field on a 1-2 pitch from Miami closer Bryan Garcia, but Long Beach State (37-21) would ultimately fall, 4-3, in 11 innings as Miami (47-11) remains in the winner’s bracket of the Coral Gables Regional. LBSU will face Florida Atlantic on Sunday at 1 p.m. ET in an elimination game at Alex Rodriguez Park.
