Irene Gonzalez (UH), Samantha Murphy (UCSB), #BigWest POY Mary Brooks (UCI), and Allyson Hansen (UCD) were named to ACWPC All-America teams.

UC Irvine standout and Big West Player of the Year Mary Brooks collected second team honors on the Association of Collegiate Water Polo Coaches NCAA Division I All-American teams, which honored a total of seven Big West student-athletes.

This is Brooks’ second All-American honor after receiving honorable mention accolades in 2015.  The sophomore also received first-team All-Big West honors after pacing the Anteaters with 55 goals on the year and a 1.83 goals per game average, the third best in the conference.  With a season-high six goals versus Long Beach State on February 13, Brooks notched her name in the UCI record book, matching the mark of the second most goals scored in a game.

UC Santa Barbara senior Samantha Murphy, Hawai‘i freshman Irene Gonzalez and UC Davis senior Allyson Hansen earned third-team honors after their own decorated campaigns.

Murphy, the Big West Tournament Most Valuable Player, helped her squad to its first ever conference tournament title and helped the Gauchos punch their ticket to the Big Dance.  Murphy netted a hat trick in each of UCSB’s outings in the Big West Tournament and finished the season with 42 scores on the year.

Gonzalez was named Big West Freshman of the Year after leading the conference with 73 goals scored on the season with a league second-best 2.61 goals per game average.  The first year helped UH to a 20-win season, just its second since joining the league.  Gonzalez also helped lead the Rainbow Wahine to the Big West Tournament title game for the second year in a row after finishing the regular season 3-2 to earn a No. 4 seed.

Hansen received her second honor after receiving honorable mention accolades last season.  The senior becomes just the third Aggie to earn an honor higher than honorable mention in Davis' Division I era.  The senior led the Aggies with 54 goals and a 1.80 goals per game average to help UCD garner three weeks in the top 5 of the Collegiate Water Polo Association weekly poll.

Other Big West representatives to be named were Long Beach State’s Alexis Butler and Virginia Smith who both received honorable mention.  Long Beach State celebrated a historic campaign after winning its first-ever regular season title, going 4-1 in league and 17-12 overall.  Butler and Smith represented the Beach as its two honorees in 2015-16.

Rounding out the last of the honorable mention recipients for the Big West was UCSB’s Lauren Martin.  2016 marks the first season that UCSB received more than one honor in a single year.
