Matt Lutz completed the third round of the NCAA Championship with a final round 83, capping a historic season for the UC Riverside Men's Golf program.
Lutz (+26) finished short of advancing to Monday's individual championship round, however in his previous two events he recorded two of the best finishes in the history of UCR Men's program since joining the Big West.
His third place showing at the conference event helped propel the Highlanders their first title in over ten years, and his third place result in the Tucson NCAA Regional versus a field littered with players ranked in the top 100 established a new high-watermark for the program.
Lutz struggled with iron play and putting in the NCAA Championships at the Eugene Country Club course that punishes any shot that is off the mark.
"Although he didn't play as well as he wanted to, he should be proud of the year he had, especially the last month.", said Head Men's Golf Coach Rick Todd.
