The National College Baseball Hall of Fame released its updated 2016 National Pitcher of the Year Award watch list and UC Santa Barbara’s Kyle Nelson made the cut.
In 54.2 inning pitched, the sophomore southpaw currently sports a 2.14 earned run average, which ranks third in the Big West Conference, and has struck out 59 batters. Nelson is 6-0 on the season and has also recorded a team-best five saves. The San Francisco, Calif., native is holding his opposition to a .217 batting average.
Nelson is one of 44 student-athletes to make the elite list.
The award, sponsored by Diamond, will be presented on July 2 in Lubbock as part of the annual Night of Champions event.
