NCAA Women's Golf Regionals - Day One

After the first round of the NCAA Stanford Regional, UC Riverside, making its first appearance in the postseason, finds itself tied for 16th after firing 306 at the Stanford Golf Course in Palo Alto, Calif.  USC leads the 18-team field with a 3-over 287 and is followed by Virginia (288) and host Stanford (289).

While the Highlanders struggled as a team on day one, 2016 Big West Co-Freshman Golfer of the Year Jakeishya Le shined in her first NCAA appearance as she finished the day tied for second after firing a 2-under 69.  She posted an error-free first round with an even-par on the front nine with two birdies registered on the back nine.  Hannah Facchini finished second on the team after tying for 36th with a score of 74.  Haley Wian shot 81 with teammate Paris Griffith one stroke back with 82.  Rounding out the five-player team is Krista Twet and her 87 point total.
 
The UC Davis duo of senior Andrea Wong and junior Paige Lee find themselves tied for 16th and 26th after firing rounds of 72 and 73.  Long Beach State’s Kassidy Teare shot 75 to conclude day one tied for 42nd.  Competing in her second straight NCAA Regional, Cal State Fullerton’s Martina Edberg finished round one in a tie for 64th after carding 77. 

UC Riverside tees off round two at 9:20 a.m. from the 10th hole.  Aggie teammates Lee and Wong begin round two from hole one at 8:20 a.m., while Teare and Edberg begin at the same time from hole 10.

The four regional tournaments run through May 7 to determine the championships field. Regional tournaments are considered preliminary rounds of NCAA championships competition and all national championships policies apply.  The other three regional sites include the Texas A&M Regional at the Traditions Club in Bryan, Texas; LSU Regional at the University Club in Baton Rouge, Louisiana; and the Alabama Regional at Shoal Creek Club in Shoal Creek, Alabama.  A total of 384 participants have been selected for regional competition.

Six teams and three individuals will advance from each regional. The national championships will be May 20-25 at Eugene County Club in Eugene, Oregon, hosted by the University of Oregon. The final three days of the championship will be televised live by the Golf Channel.
