Taylor, Schucht Face Country's Top Competition
Hawaii’s newly formed pair in Nikki Taylor and Ka’iwi Schucht received Big West Beach Volleyball Pairs Team of the Week honors after a dominating performance at the Outrigger Resorts Aloha Invitational. The recognition marks the seventh award for the Rainbow Wahine this season, the most of any team this year.
Junior Nikki Taylor (Honolulu, O’ahu/Kaiser High School) and sophomore Ka’iai Schucht (Escondido, Calif./Serra High School) received their first award on the year after starting the weekend with a sweep of No. 6 Long Beach State. at the Outrigger Resorts Aloha Invitational.
After dropping a tough loss to No. 1 USC, the pair then went on to defeat Grand Canyon in straight sets (21-16, 21-17).
The tandem finished 2-2 over the weekend, falling only to the toughest opposition in the country in the No. 1 Trojans and took runner-up at the Tournament as the Wahine closed out the regular season.
The duo helped Hawai‘i maintain its top 5 ranking in the country as UH moved to 13-8 in 2016.
