Cal State Fullerton Produces Softball Weekly Award Winners

4/25/2016

A red hot Cal State Fullerton squad, winners of 13 straight games, provided this week’s softball award winners with Delynn Rippy and Sydney Golden leading the way.

Rippy Leads Titans To 4-0 Week

Buoyed by her first career collegiate home run, Cal State Fullerton junior Delynn Rippy (Oceanside, Calif./El Camino HS) notched Big West Softball Field Player of the Week accolades.

The outfielder batted .545 (6-for-11) to help the Titans to a 4-0 week, including a sweep at conference opponent Hawai‘i.  Rippy finished the week with seven RBIs and one run scored.

Rippy connected for her first collegiate home run in Friday’s 7-1 series-opening win against the Rainbow Wahine.  The fifth-inning three-run bomb preceded a pair of errors by the shortstop with two outs, and Rippy capitalized with a shot over the center field fence to give CSF a 3-0 lead.

She had a hit in another 7-1 victory in game one of Saturday’s doubleheader.  In the nightcap, she posted two more hits, including a fifth-inning RBI single that plated an insurance run in the Titans’ 2-0 victory that culminated the series sweep and gave CSF its 13th straight victory.

Rippy also had a huge performance in Tuesday’s 8-2 non-conference drubbing of San Diego, as she went 2-for-2 with three RBI.

Others nominated: Courtney Tyler (Cal Poly); Katie Hooper (CSUN); Haley Tobler (Long Beach State); Stephanie Tickemyer (UC Riverside); Stacy Cavazos (UC Santa Barbara)

Golden Picks Up Two Wins On The Islands

Cal State Fullerton Sydney Golden (Riverside, Calif./Martin Luther King HS) captured her first career Big West Softball Pitcher of the Week honor as she went 2-0 with a 0.54 ERA at Hawai‘i.

Golden improved to 16-3 on the year, including 6-0 in Big West play, limiting the Rainbow Wahine offense to just one run on 10 hits over 13.0 innings of work.

The right-hander tossed six innings with one run allowed in a 7-1 victory on Friday.  She did not walk a batter and struck out three while scattering six hits.

Golden hurled a four-hit complete game shutout in Saturday’s 2-0 triumph.  She issued just one walk and fanned two.  Golden lowered her team-best ERA to 1.63.  Against Big West opponents, Golden sports a minuscule 0.34 ERA with just two earned runs allowed in 41.0 innings of work.

Others nominated: Sierra Hyland (Cal Poly); Daphne Pofek (CSUN); Christina Clermont (Long Beach State); Tayler Misfeldt (UC Riverside)
