ICYMI: Here are the top five things that happened in the Big West last week….In Case You Missed It!

1. LBSU’s Tautalafua Set Big West Career Home Run Record

 Senior Darian Tautalafua hit two home runs in both games of a doubleheader at UC Davis on Sunday, leading the Beach to a pair of wins in a record setting day. Hitting the go-ahead home run in game one, a 7-5 win, as well as a pair of solo homers in a 3-0 win in game two, Tautalafua passed Cal State Fullerton’s Yasmin Mossadeghi for the most home runs in a career for any player in Big West history. The senior now has 49 in the midst of her final season at the Beach.  Full Story

2.  UCD’s Olson Hits For The Cycle

UC Davis senior Cameron Olson became the first Aggie to hit for the cycle in nearly 15 years, finishing 4-for-4 with a walk and four RBI to help lift his team to a 15-3 victory over visiting San Francisco on Tuesday afternoon at Dobbins Stadium. Full Story

3. No. 14 UCSB Upsets No. 4 Hawai’i In Women’s Water Polo

After a gritty first half battle, No. 14 UCSB (14-11, 2-1) stunned No. 4 Hawai’i (18-6, 3-1) with three third quarter goals to take the 7-5 decision at Campus Pool on Sunday.  With the win, the Gauchos ended the Rainbow Wahine four-game winning streak and dealt them their first loss of the Big West season. The victory was also UCSB’s first over Hawai’i since the 2004 conference tournament when the teams were competing in the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation.  Full Story

4.  UH Basketball Coach Eran Ganot Earns National Award

Two days after being named the recipient of the Red Auerbach Award, University of Hawai’i men’s basketball head coach Eran Ganot was named the winner of the 2016 Joe B. Hall Award, presented annually to the top first-year coach in Division I by CollegeInsider.com.  Full Story

5. For LBSU Track Star Wins Two Philippine National Titles

Long Beach State former track & field athlete Jessica Barnard collected two national titles (800m and 1500m) at the Philippine Tack & Field Championship.   Full Story
