A five goal performance from Hawai‘i junior Nikki-Marie Bell (Riverside, Calif./Martin Luther King HS) earned her Big West Women’s Water Polo Player of the Week accolades.
The five goals from Bell enabled the Rainbow Wahine to win a 10-9 sudden victory thriller over No. 9 UC Davis at the Duke Kahanamoku Aquatics Complex on Saturday. Bell’s fifth and final goal came with 1:42 in the second extra period during a 6-on-5 advantage, keeping UH undefeated in Big West play at 2-0 alongside Long Beach State for first place.
Bell scored both first-half goals as UH trailed 4-2 at halftime. She notched the hat trick with a third period goal that cut the Aggies’ lead to 5-3, and equalized the scoreline at 6-6 with a fourth quarter strike, setting up the opportunity for her overtime heroics.
No. 4-ranked UH is now 17-5 on the year.
