Long and Tucker Compile Perfect Weekend
After a perfect week, Hawaii’s Ginger Long and Mikayla Tucker received Big West Beach Volleyball Pairs Team of the Week honors for the first time this season. The is the fifth-consecutive award for the Rainbow Wahine.
The No. 5 UH pair in senior Ginger Long (Keihei, Maui/Kamehameha Saul-Maui) and junior Mikayla Tucker (Placerville, Calif./Union Mine HS) opened duals competition at the Outrigger Beach Volleyball Challenge with a straight-set win over the No. 5 pair from Arizona State, winning by 16 total points (21-15, 21-10). The duo contributed to a 5-0 UH win over No. 6 ASU.
Continuing their successful week on the sand, the tandem defeated the No. 5 pair from UCLA to secure two key UH points versus the No. 5 Bruins.
At the Outrigger Beach Volleyball Challenge, the duo went 5-0 in match play and went straight sets across the board, taking all 10 sets played. With a deficit as great as 11 points (21-10 versus ASU), the pair averaged a 5.7 margin of victory over the weekend.
Long and Tucker helped Hawai‘i improve to 10-6 on the year to lead the Big West.
