Long Beach State senior goalkeeper Alexis Butler (Stockton, Calif./St. Mary’s HS) led her team to a upset of conference rival UC Davis with solid defensive play, garnering Big West Women’s Water Polo Player of the Week accolades.
Butler carried the Beach to an 8-4 win over the fifth-ranks Aggies as she made nine saves. She held UC Davis to the four goals on 4-for-30 shooting, and limited the Aggies to their third-lowest goal output this season.
Her six second half saves prevented any notions of any Aggie comeback. Butler kept UC Davis off the board in the third period with three stops.
In addition, Butler turned away seven California shots in an 11-5 loss to the eighth-ranked Golden Bears. The seven saves lifted her season total to 102, giving her 100-plus for the first time in her career at LBSU. She also sports a 7.37 goals against average this season.
