At the No. 5 position, the newly formed Hawai‘i pair in Ari Homayun and Hannah Zalopany went 3-0 to receive their first-ever Big West Beach Volleyball Pairs Team of the Week honors. This is the Rainbow Wahine’s third-straight award.
Hawai‘i freshman Homayun (San Fernando, Calif./El Camino Real Charter HS) and junior Zalopany (Spokane, Wash./Mead HS) recorded straight set wins versus Loyola Marymount, No. 3 USC and Nebraska. After topping their counter pair from the defending national champions in the Trojans, the tandem finished out the weekend by knocking off the Nebraska pair by wins of 11 and nine points (21-10, 21-12).
The UH dynamic duo also defeated the No. 3 NU pair and took third in the silver bracket of the Hawai‘i Invitational pairs (team) scoring. Going 3-0 in UH’s team dual matches, the tandem helped the Rainbow Wahine maintain their No. 5 national ranking as UH moved to 4-5 on the year.
