Crain Earns Sixth Weekly Honor
Named Big West Women’s Basketball Player of the Week for the fourth time in the last five weeks, UC Riverside senior Brittany Crain (Moreno Valley, Calif./John W. North HS) continues to be recognized for her accomplishments on the floor.
It was the sixth Player of the Week award this season for Crain, and the 11th of her career.
Crain averaged 31.5 points, 6.5 rebounds and 2.5 steals per game to lead the Highlanders over UC Irvine and Cal State Fullerton, cementing an undefeated 16-0 conference record. UCR is the first team to finish Big West play unscathed since UC Santa Barbara in 2001-02.
The 5-8 guard was efficient in getting her points, shooting 52.6% (20 of 38) from the field, including six three-pointers, and making 17 of 18 from the foul line (94.4%). She shot 10 of 19 from the floor in both games.
In the 84-72 triumph at UCI, Crain recorded 36 points for her fifth game of 30 or more this season. She made all but one of her 12 free throw attempts and drained five three-point baskets to hold off a valiant effort from the Anteaters.
Crain followed with 27 points in Saturday’s 69-45 victory against Cal State Fullerton. That marked the 13th straight game Crain has surpassed the 20-point barrier.
She leads the Big West and ranks No. 9 in the country in scoring with 22.3 points per game.
Others nominated: Amanda Lovely (Cal Poly); Channon Fluker (CSUN); Raven Benton (Long Beach State); Morgan Bertsch (UC Davis); Briana Harris (Hawai‘i)
