Big West Announces Baseball, Softball Package On ESPNU, ESPN3
2016 Baseball & Softball Schedule On ESPNU/ESPN3
A total of 12 Big West baseball games and six softball contests will be showcased across ESPNU and ESPN3 platforms this spring, the conference announced Wednesday.
Every Big West institution will appear at least once on the schedule.
Two baseball and two softball games will be aired on ESPNU. UCLA travels to Cal State Fullerton on Tuesday, April 26 for a nonconference showdown, and UC Santa Barbara travels to UC Irvine on Sunday, May 22 in a battle between two contenders for the Big West regular season title.
The Wednesday, April 27 doubleheader featuring Big West softball rivals Long Beach State and Cal State Fullerton from Anderson Family Field also will be televised on ESPNU. The two squads were picked to finish one-two in the preseason coaches poll.
The ESPN3 portion of the package commences on the opening weekend of baseball conference play. CSUN visits preseason Big West favorite Cal State Fullerton on Friday, April 1. The following week, UC Irvine welcomes UC Riverside to Anteater Ballpark for a Friday, April 8 game.
A full offering of games between UC Davis and Cal State Fullerton takes place the weekend of April 15-16, as the baseball teams square off that Friday and the softball squads duel in a Saturday afternoon doubleheader.
Long Beach State visits UC Riverside for two ESPN3 baseball games on April 22-23 and Hawai‘i journeys to Cal State Fullerton for two more on May 20-21.
The softball slate on ESPN3 finishes up on the final weekend of the regular season, with the selection of a “Wild Card” doubleheader featuring Hawai‘i at Long Beach State or UC Santa Barbara at Cal State Fullerton on Saturday, May 14.
The ESPN3 baseball package winds down on Thursday, May 26 with CSUN travelling to UC Irvine.
“This is another solid schedule of games on ESPNU and ESPN3 that will showcase the outstanding baseball and softball programs that play in the Big West Conference,” said Commissioner Dennis Farrell. “Our fans will enjoy the high level and quality of competition from the teams who have been selected for this package.”
