UC Davis goalkeeper Olivia Husted (Napa, Calif./Vintage HS) made the most of her two starts at UC San Diego’s Triton Invitational, emerging as the Big West Women’s Water Polo Player of the Week on the strength of two double-digit save performances.
Platooning with senior Haley Cameron, the redshirt junior Husted helped the Aggies defeat No. 9 UC Irvine (12-6) and upset No. 5 Arizona State (10-9), giving UC Davis a third-place finish at the Triton and the program’s best showing since 2009 – when none of the top-four teams were present.
Husted stopped a career-high 18 shots and allowed just six goals against the Anteaters in Saturday’s nightcap. The total tied the program’s No. 2 single-game performance. In the third-place game against the Sun Devils, Husted notched 11 more saves with nine goals allowed.
She tallied 29 blocks against 15 goals for a .659 average in her two appearances. Two of her saves against Arizona State came in the final minute of the one-goal win. Husted got in on the action offensively as well, providing the assist to Bryn Lutz on the game-winning goal at the buzzer.
Others nominated: Annabel Harman (Long Beach State); Mary Brooks (UC Irvine); Bryn Hudson (UC Santa Barbara)
