Crain Helps UC Riverside Reach 8-0 In Big West Play
Winner of her eighth career Big West Women’s Basketball Player of the Week award, the seventh-most in conference history, senior Brittany Crain (Moreno Valley, Calif./John W. North HS) powered UC Riverside to two more wins that extended the program’s record league start to 8-0.
Crain recorded her 11th and 12th games with 20 or more points as the Highlanders toppled UC Davis (80-73) and CSUN (83-76) at home. Crain has hit the 20-point mark in five straight and eight of the last nine contests.
The 5-8 guard played all 40 minutes against the Aggies, finishing with 23 points, nine rebounds, two assists and a block. She knocked down three treys and shot 8-of-17 overall in the win.
Against the Matadors, Crain made half of her floor shots (8-of-16) en route to a 21-point, six-rebound performance that also included three steals. Crain’s only three-pointer of the game, occurring with 9:02 remaining in the third period, tied her with Casandra Reeves (2001-05) for the Highlander career mark of 212.
Crain averaged 22.0 points, 7.5 rebounds and 2.5 steals for the week, while shooting 48.5 percent (16-of-33) from the field. She leads the Big West in scoring at 20.0 points per game, a figure that places her 30th in the country.
