Two-time defending Big West regular season champion Long Beach State begins its quest for a third straight crown, traveling to CSUN for a Friday battle.

The Beach brings a 20-match regular season conference win streak into the tilt with the Matadors.  The last time LBSU lost a Big West match was on Mar. 2, 2013.  Since the Big West went to a round-robin scheduling format in 2006, the Long Beach State program has dominated to the tune of eight regular season titles (seven outright, one shared).  The Beach is 76-3 (.962) against Big West opponents since 2006.

CSUN is coming off a 15-6 season and a 5-3 finish in Big West play.  The Matadors earned their first win of 2016 with a 4-3 triumph against Loyola Marymount last week, while the Beach toppled another West Coast Conference opponent in San Francisco.

CSUN also hosts UC Riverside to complete its opening weekend of conference competition.  Cal Poly, under first-year head coach Katharina Winterhalter, treks to the islands to take on Hawai‘i in the conference opener for both teams.

UC Davis Takes Big West Opener Over Hawai‘i
UC Davis, which won its first Big West men’s tennis regular season title in 2015 as co-champion with UC Irvine, opened up this year’s conference slate with a resounding 6-1 victory over Hawai‘i on Tuesday.  The Aggies won for the fifth time in their last six matches and extended their home winning streak to 11 straight dating back to a 4-3 loss to Hawai‘i in the spring of 2014.  UC Davis has performed solidly at the Marya Welch Tennis Center, with wins in 21 of its last 24 at home.
