A pair of juniors stepped up for their teams to earn tennis weekly honors as Bryce McKelvie of UC Davis and CSUN's Mickey Hsu went unblemished in singles.

McKelvie Posts Perfect 4-0 Record in Singles

UC Davis junior Bryce McKelvie (San Jose, Calif.) posted a perfect 4-0 record in singles to capture Big West Men’s Tennis Athlete of the Week honors.

McKelvie, who alternated between the No. 3 and No. 4 spots in the lineup, won three of his matches in straight sets.  He also finished 2-1 in doubles with three different partners.

The veteran helped the Aggies post a 3-1 record for the week, including a victory over No. 72 Pacific.  He registered a, 6-2, 6-3, victory over Alex Giannini to help the Aggies clinch the match.  In his only three-set foray of the week, McKelvie defeated Northern Colorado’s Austin Mayo by scores of 6-1, 4-6, 7-5.  McKelvie leads the team with five wins in six dual matches.

With partner Kristen Poei at No. 1 doubles, the duo breezed to a, 6-2, victory over the Loyola Marymount pairing of Jessica Perez and Anna Romeka, helping stake the Matadors to a 1-0 lead as they captured the doubles point.

Hsu then engaged in a marathon battle at the top spot on the singles ladder with Perez, ultimately winning a pair of tiebreakers by scores of 7-6 (4), 7-6 (5).  Her win tied the match up at three points apiece, and CSUN went on to win, 4-3.
