No Fluke: Fluker Wins Second Straight Weekly Award
CSUN freshman Channon Fluker (Pasadena, Calif./Maranatha HS) captured her second straight Big West Women’s Basketball Player of the Week award with two monstrous performances, including her third and fourth consecutive double-doubles.
Fluker averaged 27.0 points and 13.5 rebounds to fuel the Matadors in their conference sweep of UC Irvine (83-64) and Cal State Fullerton (79-52). Those numbers represented an improvement over what earned her her first career award (20.5 ppg, 10.5 rpg) last week.
The 6-4 center, who had a career-high 31 points against Hawai‘i in her last outing, exceeded that mark with 33 points in Thursday’s win over the Anteaters. She shot 15-of-22 from the field, setting a new career-high for field goals. Fluke added 13 rebounds, three blocked shots and a steal.
In Saturday’s triumph that extended CSUN’s win streak to three straight, Fluker notched 21 points, 14 rebounds and five blocked shots. She made 10-of-13 floor shots against the Titans.
For the week, she connected on 71.4 (25-of-35) percent from the field and upped her season averages to 10.7 points, 8.1 rebounds and 1.1 blocks per game. In seven Big West games, Fluker is averaging 17.0 points and 10.7 rebounds.
Others nominated: Dynn Leaupepe (Cal Poly); Anna Kim (Long Beach State); Celia Marfone (UC Davis); Brittany Crain (UC Riverside); Megan Huff (Hawai’i)
