DePuy Named NSCAA First Team All-American

12/11/2015

Nick DePuy (UCSB) is just the fifth player in #BigWest history to earn 1st-team All-America honors.

UC Santa Barbara junior forward Nick DePuy earned First Team All-American status from the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) on Friday.

DePuy is the fifth Big West player to be honored on the first team by the NSCAA, following in the footsteps of Sagi Lev-Ari (CSUN, 2013), Miguel Ibarra (UC Irvine, 2011), Luis Silva (UC Santa Barbara, 2011), and Willie Sims (CSUN, 2005).  He is the Gauchos’ 19th All-America selection all-time, with all but one of those picks coming since 2002.

A litany of accolades has come DePuy’s way after completing a stellar 2015 season.  In addition to being named Big West Offensive Player of the Year for the second time in a row, he was selected All-Big West First Team, Far West All-Region First Team, and a MAC Hermann Trophy semifinalist.

A native of Irvine, Calif., DePuy contributed conference-best totals in goals (15), points (31), shots (80) and game-winning goals (8) in 2015, as the Gauchos finished 14-7-2 overall, won the Big West North Division championship, and advanced to the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Tournament for the seventh time in school history.

DePuy’s eight game-winning goals rank No. 2 in Big West single-season history, while his 80 shots are tied for seventh.  He was the centerpiece of a Gaucho offense that deposited a league-high 42 goals.

He became the first player in league history to capture three straight Offensive Player of the Week awards after a stretch in which he scored six goals, including four game-winners, over a five-game stretch.  The six-foot-four DePuy claimed National Player of the Week honors on Oct. 5 after notching three goals with two game-winners in road wins over UC Irvine and CSUN.

Since being converted to a forward on Sept. 26, 2014, no other player in Division I men’s soccer has scored more goals (24).
